Overview

Next Upcoming Date:
Saturday, May 3, 2025
As archaeological sites, human burials are unique in the types of information that can be obtained about the past. However, full exhumation is not common and comes with a set of legal, ethical, and political issues. In Delaware, most cemetery projects involve delineating the burials to protect them from unintentional disturbance during construction projects. These projects can produce valuable historical information. Dr. Otter will discuss the breadth of cemetery projects and how research reconnects the living with the dead.
Host: Ed Otter
Dr. Edward Otter has a Ph.D. in archaeology from the Catholic University of America. He has over 40 years of experience in conducting archaeological studies, including nearly 50 projects involving cemeteries. He was one of the founding board members of the Coalition for the Protection of Maryland Burial Sites.
