Overview

Next Upcoming Date:
Saturday, June 6, 2026

Join Paul Campagna and Chris Haug with the Delaware Music History Archives and Tamara Burks, Rosedale Beach historian, as they document Delaware’s rich and captivating music history. Paul and Chris developed the Delaware Music History Archives to capture Delaware’s music scene and contributions from 1940 to the present. Their passion has transformed into an online interactive map capturing Delaware’s extensive music history. Tamara Burks will discuss her research into Rosedale Beach Resort, a well-known vacation location for People of Color in the mid-20th century. In 1946, a thirty-two-room hotel was built on the land. The hotel included a dining room, a kitchen managed by a chef and wait staff, a bar, and a dance hall. Entertainers who performed at Rosedale Beach included Count Basie and His Orchestra, Lionel Hampton, Ella Fitzgerald, Duke Ellington, Ray Charles, James Brown, and a young Stevie Wonder.
