Autumn Activities in Central Delaware

As the crisp air of the fall season settles over Central Delaware, the region comes alive with festive events and outdoor adventures perfect for celebrating the season. Whether you’re a local or a visitor, here’s a roundup of some of the best ways to enjoy fall in Central Delaware.

1. Pick Your Own Pumpkin

Nothing says fall quite like picking the perfect pumpkin straight from the patch, and Central Delaware offers several spots to make this seasonal activity a family-friendly adventure! Head to one of the many local farms that open their fields to visitors for pumpkin picking, where you can wander through rows of bright orange pumpkins waiting to be chosen.

You won’t want to miss Pumpkin Patch Sundays at Loblolly Acres! Every Sunday in October from 11am-4pm, you can enjoy live music, food trucks, craft vendors, hay rides, a petting zoo, and you can pick your own pumpkin right from the farm. Plus it’s dog-friendly, so bring your leashed pup along for an adventure that can include every family member!

Another option to pick your pumpkin straight from the farm and experience all things fall is at Fifer Orchards! Every Saturday through November 9 is Saturday Extras, but the Farm is also open Monday-Friday with fall activities. With apple picking, pumpkin picking, tractor rides, a corn maze, live music, a petting zoo, and so much more to explore, this stop is a must for experiencing the best of the fall season in Central Delaware. Don’t forget to try the fresh apple cider while you’re there, and pair it with an apple cider donut!

2. Visit a Haunted Trail

If you’re in the mood for a fright, check out Wicked Woods at Wicked R Ranch, a spooky attraction that runs every Friday and Saturday night in October. This haunted trail is not for the light-hearted, so enter those woods if you dare, and don’t say we didn’t warn you!

3. Experience a Lantern or Flashlight Tour

We hope you’re not afraid of the dark because there are some spooky tours to explore in Central Delaware!

First State Heritage Park in Dover is hosting a few Haunted Dover Lantern Tours throughout October for just $15 a person, and they sell out quickly! Make sure to get your tickets ASAP so you don’t miss out on this thrilling adventure.

Another option for a nighttime tour in October is at the Biggs Museum of American Art. With a flashlight tour option for kids or a more thrilling nighttime tour for adults, you’re bound to experience the museum in a way you never have before. These also sell out fast, so get your tickets ASAP!

4. Visit Killens Pond State Park

At Killens Pond State Park, there are so many programs and activities you can do for fall in addition to the usual outdoor adventures! All throughout October, you can sign up for activities like making your own scarecrow, carving a pumpkin, or hopping on a hay ride around the park.
