Kent County Tourism Corporation/Visit Central Delaware is the Destination Marketing Organization (DMO) for Kent County, Delaware, and its incorporated towns and cities. It leads the Kent County Tourism industry to work together to generate visitor spending by developing and implementing comprehensive marketing programs. It is a self-governing private not-for- profit 501 (c) 6 corporation with a Board of Directors.

Position Summary

This position coordinates and oversees all Marketing & Communications aspects of the organization with direction from the Executive Director, including production of all communications, marketing, and promotional materials and collateral; management of website, social media, and public relations efforts; and assists with other projects as needed. Applicant must have a minimum of 3 years’ experience in the area of communication, marketing and/or public relations; excellent communication skills, strong written skills, and be very detail-oriented. Additionally, this position cultivates and maintains relationships with all the organization’s stakeholders and industry partners.

Essential Responsibilities

Working as a team under the direction of the Executive Director, the Marketing & Communications Manager will oversee the following areas:

  • Manage all public relations efforts, such as creating press releases, media kits, FAM (familiarization) trips, responding to media requests, podcast appearances, etc.
  • Manage Visit Central Delaware brand and ensure all content is consistent and within brand standards.
  • Manage and create email newsletter content and manage a database of over 50,000.
  • Oversee the operation of the website in coordination with the marketing agency. Manage and edit content, including blog creation and general upkeep of the website to ensure accuracy of information.
  • Use working knowledge of SEO and artificial intelligence tactics to improve website traffic generation and leads.
  • Manage and create social media strategy and implementation, including Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and potentially TikTok accounts.
  • Create and edit video content within brand standards to promote Kent County’s attractions and community partners.
  • Create campaigns and calls-to-action that drive target audiences to the website.
  • Work closely with the organization’s marketing agency to develop and coordinate the advertising plan, including budget, placement, copy, images, and frequency.
    Maintain strong relationships with all hotel and attraction partners and understand all components of Central Delaware and its hotels, various elements of shopping, dining, and museums.
  • Supervises production and writing of all collateral, including Visitor Guide, email newsletters, and various other collateral and print materials as needed.
  • Represents the organization professionally in appropriate local and national organizations, serves as our representative with the Mid-Atlantic Tourism and Public Relations Alliance (MATPRA).
  • Responsible for managing and updating images and the video library. Oversee and schedule photoshoots and video production as needed.
  • Research, write, edit, and publish materials for all of our digital platforms that are engaging and SEO friendly in coordination with the marketing agency.
  • Stays on top of current social media news, trends, and updates related to the travel/tourism industry, and search engines and artificial intelligence updates that can affect digital marketing strategies.
  • Analyze industry trends in the group and consumer markets that assist in meeting marketing objectives, and coordinate with the Group Sales Manager.
  • Create all digital marketing tools, including dynamic emails, flyers, and one-sheeters, advertisements (both digital & print), website copy, photos, and videos that enhance our marketing efforts. Coordinate and manage all advertisement placements.
  • Leverage measurement tools to provide progress reports while continually finding opportunities to improve metrics / KPIs through testing and new initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and assist other staff members as needed.

Requirements

  • Degree from a four-year college or university or equivalent combination of education and experience. At least 3 years’ experience in all aspects of marketing, including advertising, public relations, marketing campaigns from start to finish, research, website development, database marketing, and email marketing.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite, internet, and CRM and CMS database management. Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign), and Canva.
  • Knowledge of advanced computer, website, and internet skills required.
  • Must be knowledgeable of digital advertising campaigns such as pay-per-click (PPC), SEO, SEM, keyword research & landing pages.
    Ability to maintain brand standards and positively represent the brand as our media representative.

  • Ability to exercise good judgment and diplomacy in a wide variety of public contact situations.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and assist with other staff member duties as needed.
