The Banking House Inn conjures many fond memories. The beautiful historic building still stands at 112 N. Front Street in Milford, Delaware. The original brick home (eastern half) was built in 1787 on a lot purchased from the founder of Milford (Joseph Oliver) by John May Laws, a merchant, who traded goods at a river wharf at the rear of his home. The western side of the house was added in 1811 as a branch of the Commercial Bank of Delaware from 1812 – 1831. The two structures were joined in 1879 by Andrew Donnell of Newark, who purchased both structures for his daughter and her husband, Dr. George Marshall, M.D. who set up his medical practice in the Marshall House. Following his death in 1915, he was followed in the medical profession by his son, Dr. Wid Marshall. Dr. “Wid” and his wife lived in the home until his death in 1971 and her death in 1982. The home was then converted into the “Banking House Inn” restaurant by Hubbard Macklin and his partner Chuck. It was sold in 2000 to a local restoration investor, Daniel Bond and operated as the “Victoria Tea Room” for many years.

Join Benvenuto for a special menu (to be announced in the near future) that is being developed by Chef Zeus of Benvenuto and Benny Bendistis, the former head chef of the Banking House Inn.
