There’s no shortage of activities in Kent County that include the entire family. Here are just a few ideas to get started, but we’ll leave the exploring up to you!
Start off your morning with some hearty breakfast at Smyrna Diner before a leisurely hike or auto tour through Bombay Hook Wildlife Refuge and see how many different animals you can spot! Bombay Hook is known for bird-watching, but there are often foxes, muskrats, and other wildlife that inhabit the area.
After working up an appetite from hiking and identifying wildlife, head South to Stonerail Market in Historic Downtown Dover for a quick and delicious lunch.
Just a short drive away is the Air Mobility Command Museum. See over 30 aircraft and learn all about aviation history. From late April through October, every third Saturday of the month is Open Cockpit Day, which gives you full access to the many of the museum’s aircraft cockpits. Volunteers, often retired crew members of these airplanes, bring the experience to life for visitors.
A long day of adventuring is best ended with full, happy bellies. There are many options nearby for dinner, but we recommend your choice of authentic Italian cuisine at Roma Italian Ristorante, or authentic Mexican cuisine at La Hacienda!
A Delaware delicacy that is a must try for breakfast, Surf Bagel! Afterwards, take a stroll through Downtown Milford’s Riverwalk and see if you can find all the boat sculptures!
Fifer’s Orchards is a must see venue among families. With an entire U-Play area on the farm, kids are not the only ones who get to have all the fun! With apple cannons, farm volleyball, ziplines, pedal tractor races and so much more, you’ll never want to leave. For lunch, Fifer’s has a Farm Kitchen right on site with delicious, farm-fresh options. For dessert, drive just 3 minutes down the road to find Tre Sorelle Dolce. Some of the most delectable ice cream and italian ice you can find with an 18-hole mini-golf course attached!
After a long day of Exploring the Unexpected, you deserve an evening of complete relaxation. Rail Haus in Historic Downtown Dover is a beer garden and community space, where kids can play in the large area outside while the adults can take a load off. They offer German-style cuisine with a kid friendly menu, so there’s always something for everyone!
