Why We Run/Walk

DSU’s inaugural 5K Run/1 Mile Walk offers a unique opportunity to bring together businesses, organizations, and individuals to elevate DSU’s  wellness & recreation programs initiatives, while simultaneously,  strengthening financial support for DSU’s students so that they can successfully achieve their college degrees.

This fall, we expect over 6,400 + students to enroll at DSU, all working diligently towards degree completion. Many of these students will engage in our wellness and recreation programs, which include fitness classes, intramural sports, and various initiatives focused on physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Regrettably, some students encounter challenges that impede their progress toward degree completion, with the lack of financial resources being the most prevalent barrier.

Your participation in DSU’s inaugural 5K Run/1 Mile Walk will have a significant impact on the ability of deserving Delawareans and other underrepresented students to enroll in and graduate from our university.

Since its establishment in 1891, DSU has upheld a proud tradition of making higher education accessible to all students. Founded during a time of segregation and discrimination, DSU has played a pivotal role in equipping its first students with the skills necessary for a high-quality education.

Today, DSU continues to stand as a beacon of hope and opportunity, particularly for Delawareans, including African Americans and other underrepresented groups, helping them flourish and reach graduation.

How We Run/Walk

We encourage corporations, groups, and individuals to organize teams of ten (10) members, with each team aiming to raise a minimum of $250. The involvement of multiple teams will not only enhance our overall impact but also create a spirit of friendly competition among participants.

To conclude the event, we will host a post celebratory reception, where participants can come together to celebrate their achievements together.

The after-race reception will feature live music, food trucks, health and wellness information, and a dedicated kids’ zone.

This gathering will take place at DSU’s Downtown Campus, located at 120 N. State Street, and is expected to last around two hours. It promises to be a wonderful event.

Our Goal

Our Goal is to raise $15,000 to support students striving to complete their college degrees.
